Last Known Location: LE2
The Ultramarines find more than they bargained for when searching a mysterious Space Hulk for signs of a Blood Angels terminator squad who disappeared on the vessel decades prior.
LE2 was my submission to a diorama competition at Warhammer Falkirk in October of 2025. I had just four weeks to plan, build and paint this piece.
The theme of competition was “horror” and I chose to interpret this with the classic “he’s behind you” trope. In this instance a lone troop investigates the disappearance of his brothers with a Gene-stealer lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce.
My inspirations for this piece was a combination of the classic Space Hulk diorama by Mike McVey and the colours of the box art of the same game. I was very fortunate to have on hand the 2016 anniversary model based on the classic LE2 sculpt by Bob Naismith which allowed this diorama to truly have that retro flair.
The build was largely cardstock with a plastic-card front for texturing and painting. My personal favourite addition was using a mirror in the base to give the illusion of depth that the space hulk continues under where our focus lies. The painting was kept very vibrant to match the art that inspired it.
